What is so valuable about McAlevey’s books and work is that she begins with a grounded faith in the potentials of working people. Because she doesn’t romanticize workers as spontaneously radical, she identifies the question of organizing the class — uniting it across divisions and developing their collective potentials into a creative social force — as the overriding task.
