Bittersweet might appropriately describe my attendance and talks at this year’s Alternative Future and Popular Protests conference, held for more than two decades in Manchester, England. Bitter because we’ve recently lost the visionary behind the conference, the eternally smart Colin Barker. Sweet because we will honor him, as we have been doing and will continue to do in multiple settings since he lost a fight with cancer and passed away months shy of his 80th.
